Medical racism is the systematic and widespread racism against people of color within the medical system. Healthcare workers often hold biases against people of color, leading to people of color not getting adequate care.

People of color are more likely to die from preventable illnesses in American healthcare systems compared to white people. Often their death is not from malicious intent but the implicit biases that are taught and held within the healthcare system. Combating systemic racism in healthcare systems starts with understanding the many forms of racial discrimination and prejudice embedded in them.
“It’s not about the number of people in the room or what they look like […] it’s about the diversity of thoughts in the room” – Dr. Clyde Yancy
One of our upcoming episodeswill focus on the prevalence of medical racism in healthcare as well as the experiences of POC healthcare professionals.
