In our second episode, team member Vimal sat down with Dr. Eric Bailey a professor at East Carolina University. Dr. Bailey discussed his journey in academia as well as his race and ethnic relations class. He expressed the importance of "looking and listening" to understand people and groups who may be different than us.

As a group we discussed the value that Bailey's race and ethnic relation's class has. The stories he shared with us and that team member Bree Sapp shared about her experience in his class helped us to reiterate the purpose of our podcast; to have difficult conversations in a comfortable and open environment, and to normalize these kinds of discussions.
“That's what I do at every place that we've been. You know, I, I get involved with the local dynamics, not just the African American community, but all communities here as as best way I can. But when embracing each community, you have to see yourself again as an outsider and how to fit into the local dynamics.”- Dr. Eric Bailey
Dr. Bailey is a professor at East Carolina University in the Department of Public Health. Over 25 years, Bailey has published multiple research findings in scholarly journals on issues related to medical anthropology, multiethnic health care issues and more.
