The month of February is observed as Black History Month in the United States, Canada, Ireland and the United Kingdom. In the United States this month is used to honor the struggles, triumphs and sacrifices made by African Americans in the U.S. throughout history

There is a new theme for the month every year. The theme for 2022 is Black Health and Wellness, paying homage to medical professionals, scholars and health care providers. This years theme is particularly fitting as we are heading into our third year facing the COVID-19 pandemic.

The greatest challenge I faced in becoming a neurosurgeon was believing it was possible."- Dr. Alexa Canady

This month our content will focus on the African American culture in Pitt County as well as important figures in Pitt County's black community.
